Essential questions to be asked to the physician before accepting any type of medical treatment

It is a common perception among people that physicians being highly qualified are infallible. People assume that the physicians know each and every thing that is required to be known for treating specific conditions. However, the truth is that at some point of time, the physician would be learning few things by performing. They are said go through rigorous training and intensive education. But, there does exist a huge difference between that of textbook learning and unpredictability noticed in real life practice. It has been seen that even well-established professionals may have their whole career to be without providing first hand treatment for many conditions.

This does not mean that the person has to avoid visiting the healthcare practitioner or to be in fear about the care quality provided when it is very much required.

It is necessary on the part of the individual to regard the physician as friendly advocate to help him/her for his well being and health. But, one should not remain passive spectator, when surgery, medication or treatment is proposed. This is because, the person‘s or his beloved one’s health is on line and hence, there is needed to get engaged fully in the process. Asking the physician few questions can help the person to be rest assured that the right treatment is being availed from the professional, talented and experienced physician, who makes use of the right medical treatment instrument.

Questions to ask the physician before accepting any type of medical treatment

  • Experience of the physician with regards to the particular condition.
  • How long has he been in practice?
  • What are the treatment options available to the patient and what options are not provided by the physician? If the physician’s basic explanation, pertaining to the treatment and condition, is not understood, then more information can be availed.
  • About the possible complications that may arise out of proposed surgery or treatment. If any complication is involved, then how to have it rectified and what could be the possible treatment expenditure in the process.
